Chancellor Hotel on Union Square

Location was amazing! Close to everything. The hotel is beautiful and I loved that it maintained some vintage details. The room was very clean. Having a refrigerator was helpful. There was no microwave in room though. There was a microwave in the lobby for guests to use but I felt a little awkward to go down there and heat things up. Endless tea, coffee, filtered water and cookies in the lobby was a nice touch. It felt safe enough considering its San Francisco and you will encounter some unusual activity because its a big city. There were enough people around that I felt safe enough. Also the room had a safe for valuables, I love when hotels have this.

Very central location .Lovely well preserved 19th century building with lots of character The standard of cleanliness across the building was very high .The staff were great - friendly and extremely helpful . No breakfast facilities but there is 24 hour free tea and coffee and cookies. It also provides excellent value for money .

Check in. Quick & easy. Hotel staff were super friendly throughout our stay. I mentioned that we were celebrating my birthday & the hotel staff generously gave us a bottle of bubbly 😊 & some balloons!! What a lovely surprise. Location Literally 60 seconds from Union Square. Perfect location for public transport, shopping, sightseeing. San Francisco is also a great city to walk & Fisherman Wharf & the Golden Gate Park are a quick bus, or morning stroll away. Also the Walking Tour and the Hop On, Hope Off busses all leave from Union Square so the Chancellor is perfectly situated. McDonald's is 3/4 minutes away, Walgreens & 7eleven are 2/3 minutes away. Right next door is an old school American diner called Sears that does great food all day. Rooms The hotel is an older building & the rooms have an older, quaint feel, but honestly they have everything you could need. They are cozy but spacious. We had a large luggage room with wardrobe, safe, spare pillows. There was also a portable heater & plug in fan should you need them. We didn't even though we visited in Jan. The bed was so comfortable, it was difficult to get out of bed in the morning! :) You can have a choice of pillows too. Our room had a large fridge that Bar / Lobby There is a bar at the lobby, (which we didn't get to try out this time), but the best part was the cookies!! They were plentiful & absolutely delicious!!! The lobby is comfortable & has Coffee, Tea, Apples, Popcorn & Cookies. We stayed at the hotel in Jan, so it was lovely to be able to grab a coffee or tea & have a chat with the hotel staff & enjoy some cookies before hitting the hay. Check out Quick & easy. I was absolutely delighted with my stay at this hotel! Let me start by saying that the location is fantastic — just 300 meters from Union Square, which makes it super convenient. The metro, cable car, and Wranglers are all within walking distance, and the street itself is very quiet and safe, which I really appreciated. My room was spacious and thoughtfully equipped, featuring a hairdryer, ironing board, and iron — all the essentials for a comfortable stay. The bed was large, soft, and incredibly comfortable — perfect after a long day of exploring the city. The staff and lobby amenities were also excellent — everyone was kind, helpful, and genuinely welcoming. On the first floor, there’s a coffee machine, microwave, fresh lemon water, tea, and cookies available at all times — such a lovely touch!
